Silly post headings a side, a friend, knowing my peculiar fondness for black metal, asked me to create a compilation CD for him. A crash course, as it were, on this much-maligned, often misunderstood sub-genre of extreme metal. Being particularly jobless today, I thought why not. Now that it’s done I figured I might as [...]

Waking up to the news of Arthur C Clarke’s death, one of my all time favourite authors, a man whose stories have inspired me countless times, is a shit beginning to a day. Then there was work with the usual headaches and I was ready to blow a fuse. But then I chanced upon live [...]

Cryptopsy.
A guy in a forum I frequent said it best: “And as for Cryptopsy, the more you remove the dicks that have been placed in your ear from listening to generic rock for so long, the more you understand the beauty of it all.” Took me a couple of years to get it, but now [...]

So Stiggies will be playing this Saturday between 8 and 9 at the SAARC Band festival. They’ll be the only metal band and only Sri Lankan act playing so ’tis a double honour for the lads. Wish I could be there, but education calls and I can’t ignore it any longer. Oh well.
To Suresh, Tenny, [...]

DEVIN TOWNSEND – Ziltoid The Omniscient
I recently joined a Facebook group called ‘The Devin Townsend Is An Absolute God Amongst Men Society’. Hero worship, I hear you say disapprovingly. Well, duh! The man is a mad genius whose musical ideas sometimes defy belief. His last album with Strapping Young Lad (The New Black) had more [...]

The year is coming to a close and I’ve been giving thought to my favourite music released this year. And that inevitably means the clichéd top ten list. Why ten? Have no sodding idea. This entry will kick off a series of posts on what I think was the best music released this year. It [...]

Dear Roger,
You are a mad genius. Thank you for these verses of violence and lust gone awry. Were it not for you, I’d have totally lost faith on the role of lyrics in music.
Yours in eternal admiration,
Theena

Regular readers of my blog will know how much I adore Stigmata. This admiration is not merely for their music - of which there is plenty to lose my head over - but also for the hard work, dedication and humility they display day in and day out. When they make it - and the [...]
