About Moi

Pissu tagged me to write down seven random things about me so here goes:

1. I love literature, music and cricket. A lot. I don’t like being disturbed when I am reading, writing, listening to music or watching an important cricket match.

2. I hope to get published one day, both as a novelist and a poet.

3. Music has of recent overtaken both literature and cricket as an all consuming passion. I am not a musician although I hope to rectify that in the next few months. I want to form an acoustic metal band that melds carnatic, Sri Lankan folk and jazz to create some crazy mind-fucking music.

4. I do not like religion, any religion, particularly the one I was born into (Hinduism). I respect religious people who have devoted their lives for their religions, and don’t feel the need to preach to those around them. I keep away from religious people who preach. I detest those who advertise their religion as the only path to salvation.

I do, however, worship a few individuals: my parents, William Shakespeare, John Milton, Anthony Burgess, George Orwell, Stanley Kubrick, John McLaughlin, Nick Drake and Krystopher Rygg.

5. Brain Lara’s batting has frequently brought me tears of joy. His batting is poetry in motion and everything he does with the bat in the middle – from taking guard to his backlift, from his flashing cover drives to his coming down the wicket to spinners – has me on the edge of my seat.

6. I love my privacy and will not compromise on it one bit, even if that means burning a lot of bridges. I have days where I do not want to talk to or interact with anyone.

7. The following quote by Stephen Fry describes me perfectly:

“I am a lover of truth, a worshipper of freedom, a celebrant at the altar of language and purity and tolerance. That is my religion, and every day I am sorely, grossly, heinously and deeply offended, wounded, mortified and injured by a thousand different blasphemies against it. When the fundamental canons of truth, honesty, compassion and decency are hourly assaulted by fatuous bishops, pompous, illiberal and ignorant priests, politicians and prelates, sanctimonious censors, self-appointed moralists and busy-bodies, what recourse of ancient laws have I? None whatever. Nor would I ask for any. For unlike these blistering imbeciles my belief in my religion is strong and I know that lies will always fail and indecency and intolerance will always perish.”

  • you forgot to mention me in the list of people you worship….tut tut…:p

Ditto… I think religion should be something personal left up to individuals. Forcing it just makes matters worse.

wish you good luck… I hope you do get published one day and also get to create a great band too…
(if your looking for a half baked guitarist let me know he he he :D)

  • Pissu, you are my unofficial shrink - that makes you more important than mere Gods :P

Azrael, I wouldn’t mind trying out a few jam sessions. I am half baked myself, but jamming with someone would give me the motivation to start practicing seriously. What kind of music do you listen to?
